Visa-Free Countries for UAE Residents: 2026 Passport Guide
Updated: 1 day ago
Quick answer: there is no single “visa-free countries for UAE residents” list. Your passport nationality remains the main rule. UAE residency can create extra entry options in some destinations, but those options may be visa-free, visa on arrival, or a travel authorisation—and the conditions are different.
Do UAE residents get visa-free travel automatically?
No. UAE residence is not a passport and does not create one universal visa-free status. Always check two things separately: (1) the rule for the passport you will travel with, and (2) whether the destination gives an additional benefit to holders of a valid UAE residence permit. This guide focuses on verified examples where UAE residency genuinely changes the entry route.

Verified UAE residence-based entry examples — reviewed 30 August 2026
Georgia — genuine visa-free access for many UAE residents
Georgia’s Embassy in the UAE states that holders of a valid UAE visa or residence permit may enter Georgia without a Georgian visa for up to 90 calendar days in any 180-day period. The UAE residence document must be valid on entry and departure. Additional remaining-validity conditions apply to a specified group of passport nationalities, so check the official nationality-specific rule before paying for non-refundable travel.

Armenia — temporary visa-free scheme for qualifying UAE residence holders
From 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027, Armenia has a temporary visa exemption for nationals of 111 countries who hold a qualifying physical residence permit issued by the UAE or another listed jurisdiction. The residence permit must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Eligible travellers may stay visa-free for up to 180 days within a one-year period. The nationality list and document conditions matter, so verify them on the Armenian MFA site.

Azerbaijan — visa on arrival for eligible UAE residents, not visa-free
Azerbaijan’s official UAE consular guidance says eligible holders of a UAE resident visa can obtain a visa on arrival at the airport. The UAE residence visa must have at least six months validity and the passport at least four months validity. The UAE Embassy guidance excludes citizens of Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan from this visa-on-arrival route. This is a visa on arrival, not visa-free entry.

Common destinations that are often mislabelled as “visa-free”
Maldives — tourist visa on arrival
The Maldives grants tourists a visa on arrival rather than treating the trip as visa-free. No tourist visa pre-approval is required, but travellers must meet the entry conditions and submit the mandatory IMUGA Traveller Declaration within the official time window before arrival.

Seychelles — no visa, but Travel Authorisation is required
Seychelles does not generally require a visitor visa, but all visitors must obtain a valid Electronic Travel Authorisation before departure and still meet the visitor-permit conditions on arrival. That is visa-free travel with a mandatory pre-travel authorisation—not “no paperwork.”

Sri Lanka — ETA required; UAE nationals currently receive it free
Sri Lanka requires an Electronic Travel Authorization before arrival. Since 25 May 2026, UAE nationals are included in the free tourist ETA scheme for 30 days with double entry, but an ETA is still required. UAE residents travelling on other passports must check the rule and fee for their own nationality.

How to check whether you can travel without a visa
1. Start with the passport you will actually travel on. 2. Check whether your UAE residence permit creates an additional exemption or visa-on-arrival route. 3. Distinguish clearly between visa-free, visa on arrival, ETA/travel authorisation and eVisa. 4. Check passport and residence-card validity requirements. 5. Recheck the official government source shortly before ticketing because entry rules can change.
Know what the entry labels mean
Visa-free: No advance visa is normally required, but entry is still subject to border checks and the destination’s conditions.
Visa on arrival: The visa is requested or issued at the border and may still require eligibility checks, documents or a fee.
eVisa: Electronic visa approval is required before travel even though there may be no embassy visit.
ETA / travel authorisation: A pre-travel electronic permission that is not the same as a visa; Seychelles and Sri Lanka are examples of destinations where the label matters.
Residence-based facility: A special route linked to a valid UAE or GCC residence permit. Passport nationality, profession, residence validity or document type may still matter.
What UAE passport holders should know
If you are an Emirati passport holder, do not rely on a generic “UAE residents” list. UAE citizens often have separate bilateral or unilateral exemptions that are more favourable than resident-based rules. Kafu destination pages separate UAE-passport rules from UAE-resident rules wherever the official information supports that distinction.
Emirates ID and passport-specific questions
The two answers below were checked against the linked embassy guidance on 18 September 2026. Other sections retain their stated review date; entry decisions remain with the destination authorities.
Can I travel with only my Emirates ID?
Not for the residence-based routes described here. Carry the passport or accepted travel document required by the destination as well as proof of UAE residence. Georgia requires a valid travel document. Armenia’s temporary exemption requires the qualifying residence permit as a physical card or passport sticker; do not assume an app screenshot meets that requirement.

Can Indian and Pakistani UAE residents use the same country list?
Do not assume one passport’s eligibility applies to another. Georgia’s UAE embassy specifically names Pakistani citizens among the nationalities with additional conditions: the relevant visa must be multiple-entry, and the visa and/or residence permit used for the exemption must have at least one year remaining on entry. Check the complete official nationality list and your exact documents before booking.

How Kafu uses this information
Kafu uses entry information to help shape practical holiday options, but immigration approval always belongs to the destination authorities. We verify dynamic rules against official sources, separate passport nationality from UAE residence status, and reconfirm volatile requirements for the client’s actual travel dates before treating them as final.
Last reviewed: 30 August 2026. Entry rules can change without notice. Always verify the rule for your exact passport, residence document and travel date on the destination government’s official immigration or foreign-ministry website before booking non-refundable travel.
